Stand-by-me Bereavement Support celebrates 10 years of making a difference to children and young people in North Herts and Stevenage

Stand-by-me Bereavement Support is proud to mark its 10th Anniversary, a decade of life-changing service to children, young people and their families who are confronting the challenges of grief.
This significant milestone was celebrated at a special event on Tuesday 29 April, at the Millstream pub in Hitchin, bringing together the volunteers, trustees and staff whose passion and dedication make Stand-by-me’s work possible. It was an occasion to reflect on the charity’s work so far and to thank everyone who contributes to the vital support we offer.
Earlier our Young Ambassadors, met to celebrate the occasion too. Earlier in the day, our Young Ambassadors also came together to mark the occasion. Each of these inspiring young people has taken part in one of our Groupwork programmes after experiencing the loss of someone significant in their lives, and they have since chosen to support Stand-by-me by raising awareness and funds for the service we offer.

Over the past 10 years, Stand-by-me has supported more than 1,000 children and young people through its clinically validated group programme and support lines.
In 2023, we were honoured to receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, a prestigious recognition of the vital role of our volunteers and the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK.
Carol Read, Chair of Trustees, said: “Stand-by-me relies 100 per cent on the donations we receive, so our essential work would not be possible without the generosity of the people and businesses who support us. I’d like to use this landmark moment to appeal to everyone in our local community, who is able, to sign up to make a regular donation to help fund our ongoing work. It’s easy to do – just go to stand-by-me.org.uk and click the ‘Donate’ button.”
