Quiz Night …. Holby City Reunion

Stand-by-me Bereavement Support’s Christmas quiz featured a reunion between two local TV stars who both worked on the popular hospital drama

Our recent quiz night featured a reunion between two local TV stars, Billy Byrne and Adam Astill, who both worked as cast and crew on the much-loved soap Holby City.

Billy Byrne, who is the charity’s patron, worked for many years behind the scenes in the camera and electrical department of the long-running hospital-based drama, and is perhaps better known for his starring role as the electrician on DIY SOS.

Adam Astill starred in Holby as surgeon Dan Hamilton from 2011 to 2012. Since then he has had roles in prime time shows such as Coronation Street, Unforgotten, The Bay and, most recently, The Archers on BBC Radio 4.

Billy was a member of one of the teams taking part in the quiz, held at Whitehill Junior School in Hitchin on 25 November, while Adam co-hosted the event with quizmaster James Lawrence, who is a trustee at the charity.

During the half-time interval, Billy and Adam got together for a chat and reminisced about their happy days filming Holby City (see pic, attached).

The quiz was attended by more than 100 contestants and made more than £1,300 to help fund the work of Stand-by-me which supports bereaved children, young people and their families in North Herts and Stevenage.

Adam Astill said: “It was such a fun evening and a great way to raise some money for this important local charity. And what a bonus to see Billy again and reminisce about our happy times on Holby City.”

Billy Byrne said: “I’m always delighted to support the work of Stand-by-me as I know what a big difference the charity makes to the children it works with. It was also great to see Adam again and talk about old times.”

Carol Read, Chair of Trustees at Stand-by-me Bereavement Support, said: “This was our first ever Christmas quiz and it was a very successful evening, enjoyed by everyone. It was great to see two local celebrities lending us their support. And as a bonus we made some money to help with the vital work that Stand-by-me does for bereaved children and families in our local community.”
