Our Young Ambassadors Share Christmas Tips for Those Experiencing Grief

As the festive season approaches, our Young Ambassadors at Stand-by-me have come together to share their tips for those in our local community who are navigating the challenges of bereavement during Christmas. We understand that this time of year can be particularly difficult, and we want to remind everyone that you are not alone.

Tip 1: “Think About the Person Who Died” (Anna – Young Ambassador)

Anna reminds us that remembering the person who has passed away is vital, especially during Christmas. Reflecting on their life can help cope with mixed emotions. It’s perfectly normal to feel a range of feelings from sadness to joy. Let’s support one another and the incredible work that Stand-by-me does to ensure every bereaved child or young person receives the support they need.

Tip 2: “Light a Special Candle” (Charlotte – Young Ambassador)

Charlotte suggests lighting a special candle in memory of your loved one. This simple act can create a moment of connection and reflection, allowing you to share your feelings and honour their memory. Together, we can support each other through this journey of grief.

Tip 3: “A Special Tree Decoration” (Hugo – Young Ambassador)

Hugo shares a touching tradition of placing a special decoration on the tree for his dad each year. This act brings him joy and keeps his father’s memory alive during the festive season. By sharing these experiences, we can help more children like Hugo find comfort in their memories. See Hugo’s video here

Tip 4: “Keeping Traditions Going” (Jack – Young Ambassador Lead)

Jack emphasizes the importance of maintaining Christmas traditions that remind us of our loved ones. Continuing these practices helps keep their spirit alive within our families, providing a sense of connection and comfort during the holidays.

Tip 5: “Remembering and Enjoying Their Favourite Food or Drink” (Mia – Young Ambassador)

Mia highlights how enjoying the favourite foods and drinks of her Dad at Christmas Day brings smiles and fond memories. This practice can be a beautiful way to celebrate their life while cherishing your own traditions.

We hope these tips provide comfort and encouragement to those facing grief this Christmas. If you have additional tips to share that could help others, we invite you to contribute your thoughts! Tag us on Facebook or Instagram. Your insights could brighten someone’s Christmas.
